Financial ROI: Mezzanine vs. Relocating
Choosing a mezzanine floor can often deliver a better higher return on investment than relocating your business.
Moving premises could involve upfront capital for legal fees, lease commitments and moving logistics. Not to mention weeks or months of severe operational downtime.
A mezzanine adds vital space to your existing building at a fraction of the cost. It can be designed, planned and installed in days rather than months with minimal disruption.
Usually you don’t even need planning permission.
Unlike rigid lease commitments, your mezzanine is fully demountable so you can reconfigure or move with you if your business needs change.
Mezzanine Flooring FAQs
Do I need planning permission for a mezzanine floor in Kent?
In most cases, no. Because a mezzanine is considered an internal, demountable structure, planning permission is rarely required. However, approval is usually needed if you are changing the building's official use class, making external structural alterations, or expanding retail space above a certain floor size.
Does a mezzanine floor need to comply with UK Building Regulations?
Yes. All commercial mezzanine floors must meet UK Building Regulations—specifically Part B (Fire Safety) and Part K (Stairs, Ramps, and Protection from Falling). Our engineers will design the floor to ensure proper emergency exits, fire-rated ceilings (if required) and safe handrails.
How much weight can a mezzanine floor hold?
Our mezzanine floors are custom-engineered to your exact needs. Light-duty floors for office space or lightweight gym zones typically hold around 250–350 kg/m², while heavy-duty industrial floors for pallet storage and forklift loading can easily support 1,000+ kg/m².
How long does it take to install a mezzanine floor?
Once designed and manufactured, on-site installation for a standard commercial mezzanine (100–300 m²) usually takes just 3 to 7 days. Disruption to your daily business operations is minimal.
Can I install a mezzanine floor in a rented industrial unit?
Yes, provided you have landlord consent. Because mezzanines are steel-framed structures that bolt into the concrete slab rather than attaching permanently to walls, they can be dismantled and removed at the end of your lease if required.
